The Geto Boys, Devin The Dude, 2 Chainz, Z-Ro, Beyonce’, Travis Scott, UGK, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, The Weeknd and many many more. What do all of these platinum selling artists have in common? Yes, majority are from the 3rd coast or the Houston area, but they are all recipients of major hits from Mike Dean.

Mike Dean is a legendary producer from Houston, TX that helped shaped the southern sound that many of us enjoy today. He is one the producers along with N.O Joe that helped J Prince make his record label Rap-a-lot a premier label in hip hop. He is currently signed to Kanye West label G.O.O.D Music as a producer.

For some reason, when mentioning longevity in producers he is often left off that list but he has hits as recent as 2 Chainz “Riverdale Rd”, “Burglar Bars”, and ” Good Drank” from his recent album “Pretty Girls like Trap Music” to UGK’s debut album in 1992 “Too Hard to Swallow” with no downtime in between.

In just looking at the list above you can see how versatile he is, but what some may not realize that during his rise to becoming a go to name for hip hop he also worked with the late Tejano star Selena Quintanilla just before her passing.

As I mentioned in previous articles the producers that have longevity in the game are always the producers that can stand the test of time and consistently reinvent themselves and reinvent their sound. Mike Dean and done just that for over 20 years and it is time that we recognize him for it.
